Session: EU research funding for SMEs

Tuesday 6 November, 9:00 – 10:30 | Room B5

How can innovative and ambitious small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the health and related sectors access European Union (EU) funds for research and innovation? What do different programmes offer SMEs, and what are the benefits of participation in addition to funding?

This session showcased the latest opportunities under Horizon 2020, including the dedicated SME programme and the collaborative research schemes, as well as the Innovative Medicines Initiative, a public-private partnership between the EU and the European pharmaceutical industry that has helped many SMEs to advance their research and grow their business. There was also a presentation of European Investment Bank programmes of relevance to SMEs. Finally, representatives of two SMEs that have experience of participating in EU research and innovation / IMI projects told their stories and offered first-hand advice for SMEs considering applying for funding.
