Pilot project InnoMed
A precursor to IMI is the InnoMed Integrated Project, supported by the European Commission under the 6th Framework Programme. It kicked off in October 2005 to run for 40 months and it has a total budget of € 18 million to which the Commission contributes € 12 million.
With its 16 large pharmaceutical companies cooperating with 14 universities and 8 SMEs it clearly demonstrates that collaboration between several pharmaceutical companies and with the other stakeholders is not only feasible, but also productive.
The InnoMed project is actually composed of two sub-projects:
PredTox
Predictive toxicology
The goal of PredTox is to assess the value of combining results from omics technologies together with the results from more conventional toxicology methods in more informed decision making in preclinical safety evaluation.
AddNeuroMed
Biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease
The overall aim of AddNeuroMed is to find a biomarker for Alzheimer's disease. A biomarker is a test that can be used to help diagnose a condition or to help monitor a condition or response to treatment. Biomarkers are used in many areas of medicine both in ordinary medical practice and also in research, especially in clinical trials.
